Complaint Background:
I started using Plus.net as my ISP around 3 years ago, around the time that the rise from 512K ADSL to the New 2, 4 and 8Mb connections. I was told that I would be able to receive upto 8Mb in a few months and so i decided to pay for the "upto 8Mb" package on the basis that I would be given priority service when it became available to me. After 6months and hearing other epople in my town receiving 6-8Mb connections I decided to try and call them to find out when I might be receiving my upgraded service, only to be told that "it depends on where you live as to the speed you can receive". I began wondering what the major difference between my house and the house next door could be!After a couple more months I was still receiving my 2Mb connection and after waiting on hold for upto 25minutes at a time I was getting bored of phoning to enquire about my upgrade. So in the end I decided to cancel my upgrade request and question why I had just spent money waiting for an 8Mb connection that I was unlikely ever to see.
Not that this mattered because shortly afterwards Plus.net's "fair usage policy" came into force and suddenly i was informed of excessive usage and limitations applied to my service. Once again I tried to contact Plus.net to confirm when exactly "off-peak" was and when I would be able to use unrestricted service. I was told peak times which differ from those on the website and when highlighted the inconsistency of facts was alarmed to be told, "the times on the website arent correct and so your overuse is your own fault, but these times we have told you now are correct."
That was the final straw for me, so i migrated to another ISP a few months ago and although the switch voer was seamless I was extremely suprised that as soon as I connected to my new ISP i was able to receive 6.5Mb. Obviously my location from the exchange had not changed at exactly the same point as I migrated and so I was left wondering how long Plus.net may have been able to supply me with upto 8Mb and simpyl didn't try.
I have to say that I have now been with UKFSN.org for 4months and am completely satisfied with their service and have had no need to contact the customer service. Well done UKFSN.org and shame on you Plus.net, my only remaining question from this experience is why I din't migrate sooner.
